Best Starlink Installer in Rural Virginia — Mountain Homes, Farms & Cabins

If you live on a mountain, run a farm, or own a cabin in rural Virginia, you know the internet situation: there isn't one. DSL that barely loads a webpage. Cellular hotspots that burn through data in a week. Satellite internet from the '90s with 600ms latency. Or literally nothing at all.

Starlink fixed that. And Zaxx Tech Solutions is the installer that gets it set up right — even in the most remote, hard-to-reach properties in the Blue Ridge, Appalachian, and Allegheny regions of Virginia.

Why Rural Virginia Properties Need a Professional Installer

Starlink sells a self-install kit, and for a suburban home with a flat roof and clear skies, it works fine. But rural Virginia properties aren't suburban homes:

  • Mountain terrain means trees block huge portions of the sky
  • Metal roofs on farmhouses and cabins require specialized mounting
  • Pole mounts are often the only option — 20+ feet high to clear tree lines
  • Long cable runs from the dish to the router require proper routing and weatherproofing
  • Steep driveways and remote access mean you need someone who actually shows up

We've installed Starlink on properties where the nearest neighbor is a mile away and the driveway is a gravel switchback up a mountainside. This is what we do.

What a Zaxx Tech Starlink Install Looks Like

Step 1: Site Assessment

We visit your property (or review satellite imagery for initial planning) to determine:

  • Best dish placement for maximum sky visibility
  • Mount type needed (roof, pole, wall, chimney)
  • Cable routing path from dish to router
  • Any tree clearing or trimming recommendations

Step 2: Professional Mounting

Depending on your property, we use:

  • Roof mounts — standard for homes with asphalt shingle or standing seam metal roofs
  • Pole mounts — 10–25 ft poles for properties with heavy tree cover
  • Chimney mounts — using existing masonry for elevated placement
  • Custom mounts — barns, outbuildings, or structures specific to your property

Step 3: Cable Routing

  • Weatherproof cable runs with proper drip loops
  • Through-wall or under-eave penetrations, sealed against moisture
  • Interior routing concealed in conduit or along baseboards

Step 4: Setup & Testing

  • Router configured and positioned optimally
  • WiFi network named and secured
  • Speed test verified on-site — we don't leave until you see the results
  • Walkthrough of the Starlink app so you can monitor performance

Real Speeds in Rural Virginia

Here's what our customers are actually getting:

Location Before Starlink After Starlink
Floyd County mountain home 5 Mbps DSL 180 Mbps
Giles County farm No wired option 150 Mbps
Craig County cabin 2 Mbps cellular 120 Mbps
Patrick County homestead HughesNet 15 Mbps / 600ms 160 Mbps / 30ms
Bedford County ridge home 8 Mbps DSL 200 Mbps

These aren't lab numbers — these are real speed tests from real installs. Your results depend on sky visibility and network congestion, but most rural Virginia customers see 100–200 Mbps with 20–40ms latency.

Areas We Serve

We install Starlink across a wide region of rural Virginia:

Blue Ridge Corridor: Floyd, Patrick County, Carroll County, Bedford County, Franklin County, Botetourt County

Wythe & Bland Counties: Wytheville, Rural Retreat, Max Meadows, Bland, Bastian, Rocky Gap

Roanoke Region: Salem, Catawba, Troutville, Fincastle, Buchanan

Pricing

Starlink installation starts at $200 for a straightforward roof or ground mount.

Factors that affect pricing:

  • Mount type — pole mounts cost more than roof mounts due to materials and labor
  • Cable run length — longer runs from dish to router increase cost
  • Accessibility — remote properties with difficult access may have a travel surcharge
  • Tree trimming — if branches need clearing for sky visibility, that's additional

We give you an honest quote before we start. No surprises.

Starlink equipment (dish + router) is purchased directly from SpaceX — typically $299–$499. Monthly service starts at $65/month with no contracts.

Mountain Home Challenges We've Solved

The Tree Problem

Most mountain homes in Virginia are surrounded by hardwoods. Starlink needs a clear view of the sky — the app shows a "field of view" diagram that tells you exactly what's obstructed. Solutions:

  • Tall pole mount to get above the tree line
  • Strategic tree trimming (we can recommend arborists)
  • Repositioning to a clearing on your property

The Metal Roof Problem

Many farmhouses and cabins have standing seam metal roofs. We use specialized non-penetrating clamp mounts that grip the seams without drilling holes — no risk of leaks.

The Long Driveway Problem

Some of our customers are a quarter-mile or more from the road. The dish might need to go at one end of the property and the router at the other. We run exterior-rated Cat6 cable or use Starlink's mesh nodes to extend coverage.

The Power Problem

A few cabins we've worked on have limited or solar-only power. Starlink draws about 50–75 watts, which is manageable for most solar setups. We can help you plan the power requirements.

What Our Rural Customers Say

"We tried everything for 10 years — DSL, cellular, HughesNet. Nothing worked on our mountain. Zaxx Tech came out, put a pole mount up, and now we have 150 Mbps. My kids can finally do their homework online." — Giles County homeowner

"Zach drove up our mountain road in February to install Starlink on our cabin. The internet is faster here now than at our house in town." — Floyd County cabin owner

We've got 70+ five-star Google reviews from customers across Virginia.
